What is Kapta?
Kapta is a platform for creating and sharing WhatsApp Maps, and connecting WhatsApp Business Mappers with those who need WhatsApp Maps.
What are WhatsApp Business Mappers?
People who make a business creating WhatsApp Maps with their communities.
Kapta is inspired by Extreme Citizen Science, an inclusive approach to science. WhatsApp Maps can turn 2.7+ billion WhatsApp users into community mappers sensing what is happening on the ground around the globe. For more information see this UCL Press Release Is this the first-ever WhatsApp Map?

Kapta Web and Kapta Infrastructure are not being developed at the moment, but they are still available for reference and will be updated in the future.
- Node.js v20.0.0 or later
- npm v10.0.0 or later
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/UCL/kapta-lite.git && cd kapta-lite - Run
npm installin the root directory - Create config file (see below)
- Run
npm run buildto build the project - Run
npm startto start the development server - Open
http://localhost:8080in your browser
Kapta is being developed at University College London (UCL) by the Extreme Citizen Science Lab and the Advanced Research Computing Centre, with support from external partners and contributors. Kapta is spining out from UCL.
