Add yt6801 driver support for Motorcomm LAN controllers in HAOS

Feature Request: Add support for Motorcomm YT6801 (yt6801 driver) in Home Assistant OS

I'm running Home Assistant OS 16.0 (Linux kernel 6.6+) on a mini-PC that has an integrated 2.5GbE LAN controller: Motorcomm YT6801.

This Ethernet controller is part of the motherboard (not a USB device). It has been supported in the mainline Linux kernel since version 6.6 via the yt6801 driver.

Background:
I originally installed Home Assistant OS back in version 2024.07, when support for YT6801 did not yet exist. Now I’ve fully updated to the latest HAOS 16.0, but the driver still does not appear to be present or loaded.

Steps to reproduce:

• Install HAOS 2024.07 on hardware with built-in YT6801 Ethernet
• Update to HAOS 16.0 (with kernel 6.6+)
• Check for driver: modprobe yt6801 → "No such file or directory"
• Check /lib/modules → directory not present
• No new Ethernet interface appears (e.g. via ip link)

Expected behavior:
The yt6801 driver should be available in the HAOS kernel so that integrated LAN hardware using YT6801 works out of the box.

Request:
Please include the yt6801 driver in HAOS builds — either built into the kernel or as a loadable module — to support modern mini-PCs with integrated 2.5GbE Motorcomm NICs.

Use cases

The Motorcomm YT6801 2.5GbE Ethernet controller is built into many modern mini-PC motherboards, which are ideal hardware choices for running Home Assistant OS due to their compact size, low power consumption, and performance.

Without the yt6801 driver included in HAOS, these Ethernet interfaces are completely non-functional, forcing users to either use USB adapters or change hardware entirely.
