Describe the enhancement

I’m reaching out to ask if there are any plans to support InfluxDB v3 in Home Assistant? The latest version introduces some compelling updates that could enhance the Home Assistant experience.

Home Assistant currently integrates with InfluxDB 1.x (via InfluxQL) and 2.x (via Flux). InfluxDB v3, released on April 26, 2023, brings a new architecture along with full SQL query support. This is a significant departure from the earlier versions and offers several technical advantages:

• Unlimited Cardinality: Unlike previous versions, InfluxDB v3 has no cardinality restrictions. This means users can store and query data with a high number of unique tags (e.g., device IDs, locations, or sensor types) without hitting performance limits, which is ideal for complex Home Assistant setups.
• SQL Query Support: InfluxDB v3 replaces Flux with standard SQL, making it more accessible to users who already know SQL. This simplifies querying time series data compared to learning a specialized language like Flux or InfluxQL.
• Cost-Effective Storage: By leveraging compressed Parquet files and integration with low-cost object storage (local or cloud), InfluxDB v3 can reduce storage costs by up to 90%. This is a big win for users managing large historical datasets or hosting Home Assistant on devices with small storage capacities like Home Assistant Green.
• Performance Boost: The FDAP stack is designed for high-speed data ingestion and querying, optimized for real-time IoT workloads like those in home automation.

Adding support for InfluxDB v3 would allow Home Assistant users to take advantage of these improvements, offering greater flexibility, accessibility, and efficiency in managing their time series data.

Use cases

Here are some practical examples of how InfluxDB v3 could benefit Home Assistant users:

• Granular Data Tagging: With unlimited cardinality, users could tag sensor data with multiple dimensions, such as room, device type, or event type, without worrying about performance degradation. For example, tracking energy usage across dozens of devices with unique identifiers becomes seamless.
• Easier Data Analysis: SQL support enables straightforward queries. This is more intuitive for users familiar with SQL, reducing the learning curve for data exploration.
