Switch to new mitchmindtree development branch

The aim for this branch is to contain the set of commits and patches
that haven't yet landed upstream. Rather than switching between new
branches, I'll aim to keep this particular branch up to date with latest
features. This branch will be abandoned once upstream is up to date.
