Tray icon remains active

When I open an associted file in Notepad++ I notice the NotePad starter icon stays in the tray after closing NotePad++.
NotePadStarter Version 2.3.2.0
If I open several files then I end up with several tray icons which I have to right click and exit to close.

Is there a work around for this?
